Mark Katugampola

Respiratory Scientist

Hi there! My name is Mark, and I have a background in teaching, physiology and psychology. I received a Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Diploma of Education before starting a career as a high school teacher in Swan Hill. After a few years I returned to study to shift my career into the health care sector, completing a Bachelor of Social Science and Graduate Diploma of Psychology.  I then commenced work as a respiratory scientist in 2011, starting at Royal Children’s Hospital, where I completed my training. My background in teaching and psychology helps me to coach and empathise with patients to ensure best outcomes for them. As well as performing lung function tests, I am coinvestigator for a research project aimed at developing a biomarker screening tool for lung cancer.  My interests include attending Bayside Church, playing tennis, watching cricket and barracking for the Essendon football club. I live in the southeast of Melbourne with my wife and Shih Tzu whom we adopted from the Lost Dogs home.
